My Camp Gladiator Experience – We made day 15!!

Camp Gladiator - Day 15 - Not So Crunchy Mom

We made it to Day 15 of Camp Gladiator!!  3 weeks of 5 days a week!  I have to admit I didn’t know if I would be able to keep up with it:)  I have to talk about my awesome hubby Kevin…he also made it 15 days…but he goes at 5AM…so I think he should get extra bonus points.  I keep asking him to take a few pics so that I can post them…but I can’t blame him that he doesn’t remember…who remembers anything that early in the morning:)  I am super proud of both of us!!

Now as usual I have to be honest and Day 15 was another emotionally hard day for me at Camp Gladiator.  I went out Thursday for a girls night to hear two of my favorites, Natalie Grant and Charlotte Gambill.  It was fun and super powerful, but I did get to bed later than usual.  So, I was tired…which always causes me to be a little more emotional.  And it was the last day of CG for the week.  Then our exercises were all pretty high intensity movements (it is still HIIT week)…military pushups, jump squats, plyo lunges, v-sits, burpees and star jumps.  Like I said…all high intensity.

Our “game” for Fun Day Friday was to use a deck of cards and do that many of each of the different assigned movements.  So…it was 52 different changes x whatever number of exercises…SO MANY REPS!  We worked with partners, but at our own pace.  Karen was having some pain in her knees, so I asked Amanda if I could be in her group.  She is so kind and encouraging.  I of course got way behind because I am still in the beginning.  Usually I am good, but for some reason today it bothered me and I started to feel discouraged.  I was having trouble doing some of the exercises, so had to figure out modifications…or take a brief break during the reps.  On top of that I was getting discouraged by seeing SO MANY cards…which means more exercises.  During HIIT week you are suppose to be working at a high intensity, but I feel like I wasn’t doing it as well as I should have because I knew there were so many more that I was going to have to try and complete.  Needless to say I left Friday not feeling great about it and feeling like I let myself down because I didn’t give 100% 🙁

The good news is that there is always next week!  The third week is definitely SO HARD and my LEAST favorite…but I just keep thinking that next camp will hopefully be easier:)  One thing that I should also mention is that the scale has not gone down either…it has gone up!  But, Jessie assured me that I have to build muscle in order for my body to start burning fat…so I am going to hold her to that!  She also suggested taking measurements (which is on the list for this weekend) and hiding the scale for a few months…which I asked Kevin to do for me so I wouldn’t know where to find it.  So, we press on…we are going to rest up this weekend and start fresh for week 4 on Monday!  Thank you so much for keeping up with our journey and sharing all your encouragement.  It means so much to me and Kevin!

  1. First off congrats on 15! I applause your dedication!
    Does it get easier? Kinda. Let me explain. After I had been going to a few camps, I once complained to my friend that I thought it would have gotten easier! His reply to me was, “If it ever gets easy, the trainer isn’t doing their job.”
    When I started, I couldn’t run a full lap. I can now, but now I get winded doing sprints.
    Measure it not on how easy it seems, but how much more you can do as time passes.
    Lastly, try talking to a nutritionist! I had the same problem. I went up in weight or simply maintained. After talking to a nutritionist, I finally started loosing. 🙂
